Accutane® (isotretinoin) is an oral medication used to treat severe nodular acne. It is also used to treat cancer such as brain and pancreatic cancer. Although Accutane® is no longer being sold since 2009, generic versions are still available. Accutane® is a known “teratogen”, an environmental or chemical factor that causes a birth defect. Accutane® belongs to a class of chemicals called “retinoids”, which are the second strongest teratogens in humans known today.

Studies have shown Accutane® taken by pregnant women has directly caused birth defects, miscarriages, and even stillborn infant deaths.
