Attorney Profile

Mr. Coleman is a Partner and Owner in Ron Bell Injury Lawyers, and is also Managing Partner and majority owner of Hughes & Coleman Injury Lawyers, an established law firm with multiple offices across Kentucky and Tennessee. Lee earned his Law Degree from the University of Louisville, graduating in 1981. During the first two years of his career, Lee was a Prosecutor. During this time, he tried approximately 50 criminal cases to jury trials, going up against well prepared and tenacious defense attorneys. These early trials allowed Lee to gain valuable courtroom and trial experience.

With the experience gained as a Prosecutor, Lee was ready to move into private practice. In shifting his focus, he worked as an Associate Attorney at a small town law firm for one year. During this time Lee worked on Chapter 7 Bankruptcy cases for working class people who could not pay their bills. Lee found that most of these clients were hard workers who were just down on their luck; often because they had either lost their job or had a medical issue which left them with many medical bills.

Lee then built on this experience and began advertising to get his name in front of other people who needed his assistance. Starting out, he ran classified ads in local newspapers offering to file Chapter 7 Bankruptcy cases for a low flat rate. He began to attract clients because it was a fair offer, they needed the help, and Lee was willing to provide that help at a low cost.

In 1985, Lee began representing injury victims and founded Hughes & Coleman Injury Lawyers. He quickly determined that he enjoyed assisting the clients who hired his firm, and developed a passion for helping all of those around him.  Most of his clients were individuals injured in a wreck or on the job. During those early years, Lee was the lead attorney in charge of the courtroom work, the litigation side of injury law, which consisted of trying at least 20 Personal Injury cases all the way to a jury verdict.

After establishing his firm and business in eastern parts of the United States, Lee felt his services could be of value to injured victims on the other side of the nation. After putting out some inquiries, he met Ron Bell. Partnering in 2008, Lee and Ron have continued to work side-by-side to provide quality service to individuals injured because of someone else’s negligence. Today, Lee aggressively pursues maximum compensation for each of his injured clients.

Lee’s efforts and accomplishments have been widely recognized, including being named as a Super Lawyer in Personal Injury each year since 2012, and being awarded an AV Rating, the highest rating given, by the nation’s preeminent Attorney Rating service, Martindale- Hubbell®. Since the 1990’s, Lee has presided over M&L Legal Marketing and Management, a seminar attended by dozens of established Personal Injury Law Firms from across the nation, helping him develop close ties with successful Injury Lawyers from all over the United States.

Away from the office, Lee stays active in many ways. He enjoys traveling with his wife and family, playing golf, bicycling, and snow skiing. Lee’s wife of 41 years is Warren District Court Judge, the Hon. JoAnn Spinks Coleman, retired. Lee and JoAnn have three sons – Johnathan, Benjamin, and Andrew. Benjamin and Andrew are lawyers practicing with Hughes and Coleman, and Johnathan is a successful physician in Chicago. Lee and JoAnn have six grandchildren, whom they adore and enjoy spending time with.
